FLOORPLAN – VICTORIOUS – M-PLANT

“We live in a world filled with adversity, The key to surviving and even thriving in this era of uncertainty is knowing how to walk in victory. The truth is we are more than conquerors. We are VICTORIOUS.” So runs the statement on the press release for Robert Hood’s latest release under the Floorplan alias, which he now shares with his daughter Lyric Hood. It is worth repeating in the light of all the depressing news stories we see on the news, a reminder that music retains the ability to conquer pretty much anything in the ears of the listener. ‘Victorious’ is life affirming, both in its powerful and primal dancing beats but more importantly in its message, Lyric Hood’s vocals tinged with gospel working brilliantly with Hood’s arrangements, themselves laced with funk and disco. Tell You No Lie is a brilliant collage of disco strings, gospel vocals and a beat that powers through, while ‘Music’ spins its hypnotic web and ‘The Heavens & The Earth’ pans out to take a look at wider issues, with a spoken passage from the Bible. Influences from Chicago and Detroit combine brilliantly here, with beats that make you want to jump up and dance.
