Dave Huismans hasn’t been slow to follow up his genre-bending first album as 2562, and ‘Unbalance’ picks up pretty much where ‘Aerial’ left off. These are darkly atmospheric tracks without a huge amount of treble, opting instead for sparse, bassy grooves that gradually stutter into life. One exception is ‘Love In Outer Space’, with its warmer chord progressions that play around the stereo picture, with beats rebounding off one another. Huismans is especially clever at distorting the overall pulse in his productions, something that keeps the beats vital and the music more tense. An extremely solid follow-up, that won’t disappoint fans of the debut, continually searching for new beat forms.
