Aidan Moffat & The Best Of’s
How To Get To Heaven From Scotland
Chemikal Underground

We’ve come to love and expect a certain drenched in alcohol, I’m gonna top myself,  DIY style from Aidan Moffat, well now he’s gone and got himself a group of musicians to work with. In his own words “it’s not really a band, so much as an open door club, where anyone with a talent for something I like the sound of is welcome”. The result “How To Get To Heaven From Scotland” comes over like a Celtic celebration of mixed moods and emotions. The slightly spooky vocal intro on the opening cut “Lover’s Song”, definitely set’s the tone. “Big Blonde” is a lovely slab of upbeat foot tapping country. “Athiest’s Lament” has got a certain 50’s do-wop feel about it. “Oh Men!” gives The Pogues a run for their money. “That’s Just Love” is a pissed up Love-in. “Now I Know I’m Right” with it’s sweet strings, flutes and squeezebox really is a case of Beauty & The Beast, as it veers off into fucked up toys in the attic. “The Last Kiss” is “My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean” sing-a-long and sway. “Lullaby For Unborn Child” eerily floats over a squelching pumping heart and “Living With You Now” contains the brilliants lyrics, “You punched me in the ear, so I threw you on the bed. You slammed and smashed the glass on the front door. I kicked a table into bits and threw a grapefruit at your head, and I have never loved you more”. “How To Get To Heaven From Scotland” sees Aidan Moffat going from strength to strength, Arab Strap fans are bound to love it and so are the Twisted Folk folk.
