Alice Russell
Pot Of Gold
Sparkle Street

Long underrated, Alice Russell has one of the best pairs of lungs in music today. A sweeping statement perhaps, but just listen to the way she characterises the songs in ‘Pot Of Gold’, with a backing band that’s sharper than a newly pressed suit. The album fizzes with energy in songs like ‘Turn & Run’ and ‘Two Steps’, while the gorgeous vocal line on ‘Let Us Be Loving’ works brilliantly with its insistent keyboard riff. Only the cover of Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Crazy’ sounds slightly out of place – brilliantly performed and interpreted for sure, but a massive song to include as an album track. That shouldn’t put anybody off though, for this is a record confirming Russell as being in the form of her life, and provides a real pick me up on the home stereo.
