This is jaw-droppingly good. Filing this opus under ‘break beat’ is like calling artistic acts of consensual sex captured on film ‘hardcore’ it is missing the point. Atomic Hooligan¹s debut album throws the rule book out the window and is so goddamn good, merely listening to it could make you go blind. In our 2005 world of hybrid sounds where mix-and-match is the name of the game, Atomic Hooligan have the magic formula, and they have dosed themselves up to the max. Guitars, beats, (real and programmed), vocals, keys, dex n fx its all here for your aural pleasure. Whether its the grind of ‘Wait Otil your sleeping’, the intense rhythmic thrusts of ‘Pump Friction’, the out and out rock-bitchness of ‘Seven 10 split’ or the sweet sassy soul of ‘Twelve hundred miles’, there is plenty to fondle here. Taking up where Evil 9’s LP left off and pushing the envelope into genre-busting territory, this album is hotter than Paris Hilton’s home-video collection. Enjoy!
