‘Eclectic’ is a word often over-used, but in the case of Bedouin Soundclash it seems to best describe music that draws from several different cultures at once. Reggae maintains a prominent presence, but sometimes the band are closer to middle of the road radio rock in the way they write their songs. That means things can get a bit over-earnest on occasion, but when the sunshine reggae comes out it’s easy to feel the hot temperatures – and songs like ‘May You Be The Road’ and ‘Elongo’ are shot through with emotion. King Britt’s production, too, is a boon, giving a fresh approach to the strings and various other atmospheric, dub-related sounds. Well worth acquiring for when the sun comes out!
