Soma have returned to us another classic Black Dog album from their pre-Warp days, giving it a re-rub for the speakers and in the process showing us anew what makes their music so good. There’s a sense of timelessness running through their best music, whether it’s the complicated beats of ‘The Actor And Audience’, or the mellow ‘4,7,8’ – each put together with amazing attention to detail. Mostly deep but with occasional welcome touches of humour – a superb album and an object lesson in electronic beat making.
