Bonobo’s stock is very high at the moment, with ‘Black Sands’, arguably his best album to date, scoring highly in many a ‘best of 2011’ list. Here it gets the remix treatment, which if anything stresses just what a good album it was in the first place. Perhaps inevitably it’s the likes of Mark Pritchard that make the biggest impression, but his remix of ‘Stay The Same’ might surprise for its lightness of touch. However others work a treat too, whether it’s Banks in a darkly brooding mix of ‘The Keeper’, Cosmin TRG in a glitchy take on ‘Kiara’ or Floating Points, adding fidgety beats to ‘Eyesdown’ but keeping room for the sultry vocal. A good blend of traditional left field beats and more modern leanings towards dubstep, it’s a highly commendable remix album and a good companion to the original.
