Simon Green’s third album as Bonobo builds on the acclaim given to his Tru Thoughts debut ‘Animal Magic’ and Ninja follow-up ‘Dial M For Monkey’. Together with vocalist Bajka he has made a record that crackles with atmosphere, with the hazy instrumentals complemented by Bajka’s unaffected vocals. Bonobo’s music takes an acoustic approach, with a wonderfully earthy drum sound, and takes its momentum from easily paced riffs (‘Between The Lines’) or steadily moving instrumental passages, such as the harp in ‘Ketto’. Green’s organic approach means repeated listenings reveal more of the parts, and work well when placed at either end of the day.
