There are a lot of influences packed in to ‘One Divided Soul’, the latest of film/TV composer Dan Berridge’s long players. He seems able to turn his hand to a lot of different genres without making them sound disjointed in the context of an album. In this respect he’s a bit like DJ Shadow, particularly in some of the rhythms he uses – with more than a touch of ‘Midnight In A Perfect World’ cropping up. Now and then it would be good to hear some more vocal material, as that seems to be the only thing really lacking – but as an atmospheric record ‘One Divided Soul’ remains highly effective.
