With an ironic nod towards Public Enemy’s finest hour, the City of Angel’s Busdriver steers us through his second full length release for Big Dada. Much like his hometown metropolis, it’s a sprawling, convoluted affair, built upon many different layers, musically and lyrically. A member of the revered Project Blowed outfit, Busdriver is an amazing MC, without a doubt. He can hold his own when it comes to freestyles, can deliver sing-song style rhymes in between jazz styled scats, and mess with your head in a welter of helter-skelter verbiage, switching between styles as freely as some change records, dissecting the ups and downs of touring, fans, commercial success, and hip-hop culture. It comes together like a weird map that’s been torn apart then put together again in a different order, soundtracked by off-kilter beats and TV shows from other worlds. Humorous, not a little strange, and utterly enthralling – it’s little wonder the West Coast is hotly tipped with this kind of material being released.
