In this age of soulless downloading and Myspace, it’s sometimes hard to keep up with all the new underground acts springing up.  North London emcee Skrein might have avoided some folks’ radar, but this full-length release (expertly mixed by DJ IQ) showcases his talent in fine style.  Anthemic opener ‘Where It All Started’ reminisces on days of discovering Westwood and copping vinyl, while ‘Mother Earth’ sees the dude expressing his relationship frustrations.  Plan B gives a typically foul-mouthed cameo on ‘Hows It Feel’, before the incredible piano stabs of ‘Drug Opera’ soundtrack a tale of, well guess!  The beats are meaty throughout, with highlights ranging from the neck-snapping ‘Skrizzle’ to ‘Bastard Line’, which borrows a classy MF Doom instrumental.  There’s also guest appearances from Dr Syntax, Foreign Beggars and Stig Of The Dump – cripes, what more could a UK rap fan ask for?  It might sound like a cliche, but do keep an eye on this fella.
