Circlesquare
Songs About Dancing And Drugs
!K7

The return of Circlesquare is definitely a cause for celebration, and this ‘album noir’ is something well worth hanging on to. It’s essentially an introverted record, one that reveals more with each listen. Jeremy Shaw, the Vancouver man that makes all the music, has a deadpan voice towards the lower end of the range, but for some reason it still conveys plenty of emotion. With the music taking influences from diverse styles such as shoegaze, darker 80s pop and deep house it’s a potent combination of sounds, finished off with the unique vocals and some direct lyrics. With tracks such as ‘Hey You Guys’ and the darkly hypnotic ‘All Live But The Ending’, a thirteen minute epic that finishes the album, this is special stuff and strangely uplifting. Great to have him back.
