COOL CALM PETE
LOST
Definitive Jux

Pete Chung is the rarest of gems – an emcee that doesn’t spit bullets or front up all hard, but nor is he one that bores you with “intelligent” arrhythmic tongue twisting. And this guy is on Def Jux! He is exactly who he says he is, a straight up funky little dude that’s Lost and tired of the city. This album, about to drop in Europe, was easily one of the best Rap LPs of 2005 but nobody really noticed for several reasons: for one, being on Def Jux puts you straight on Nerd Row (even though Pete is way too cool for that), two, being Korean in Hip Hop is practically like being an alien and three, there’s no real marketing angle for the sheep to follow. His sound is easy-going New York through and through, a little like old Native Tongues stuff, but you can’t really tether him to anything, so his solo debut is one for you to rope in yourself. A grower and a keeper.
