Cristian Vogel
The Never Engine
Tresor

As I boast the technological knowledge of an armadillo’s bell-end, the highly-detailed explanation of Tresor veteran Cristian Vogel’s latest scientific research into an advanced electronic music form based around something called NeverEngines flies several miles above my cranium. From what I gather, it’s a futuristic continuation of the old drone experiments pioneered by seminal sonic scientists like Lamonte Young and John Fahey.Basically, a quest to make sounds which haven’t heard before. That’s always been a major techno point but this is about as advanced as it gets as tracks with titles like ‘PROTOCHI rearMount’ construct pyramids of resonating tones which only use the ubiquitous 4/4 as a reference point. If I ask my bottom, it says this could be seen as minimal when it strays into avant garde territory to collide with the masturbating vole-on-bowl tear-ups which were called minimal techno ten years ago and were also pioneered by the mighty Tresor. Is it a rewarding experience? Most definitely.
