Daniel Johnston’s distinct vocal whine has gained him a worldwide cult like fan base, which includes quite a few stars, such as Kurt Cobain (RIP), David Bowie, Beck, Johnny Depp, The Flaming Lips & Spiritualized, that’s just for starters. He’s also collaborated with Sonic Youth, Sparklehorse & Yo La Tengo. Daniel Johnston has been around for three decades, and his total honesty & open vulnerability is what makes him so special, he bares his soul with a fuck the consequences attitude. ‘Lost And Found’ is 14 songs packed with innocence & sadness, shot through with chaos, and it’s up there with his best. ‘Rock This Town’ opens the album with warped glam boogie woogie, ‘Try To Love’ is orchestral school play melancholy, ‘History Of Our Love’ is smothered in Beatles inspired strings, Rock Around The Christmas Tree’ has definitely had a few too many sherry’s, and the closing ‘Everlasting Love’ is like having your drink spiked by a circus clown that’s down on his luck. Daniel Johnston treads that fine line between madness & genius, that’s why he’s a living legend.
