You’ve heard of P-Funk, now welcome to P-Tech. This year has seen a fantastic run of singles from Paris The Black Fu and The Mysterious Mr O: one of them – the flickering space symphony of ‘Skydive From Venus’ – kicks off a set which hallucinogenically straddles the whole spectrum of Motor City musical madness, the city’s musical heritage sucked on and exhaled in a gloriously wigged-out which amounts to one of the most fun experiences to be encountered all year . This ain’t just techno though: it’s Prince, P-Funk and punk all rolled into a massive fat one. They’re taking the piss – tracks are linked with Wu-Benny Hill-style skits such as ‘I Like Touching Myself In Public’ and ‘Condom Mints’ but more than back it up with masterful electronic outings like ‘Message From Overkill’, ghostly ‘50,000 Legions’, minimal ‘Crystal’ and ‘Chi-Town Shuffle’ riding a groove recalling no-one so much as Suicide. Next single ‘Rollin’ Paper And Bush’ is unadulterated P-Funk with chorale vocals and a fierce political message. They also let fly with their own filthy brand of bollocksome electro-booty on tracks like ‘Earth hoes’ and the rollicking ‘Dirty Ole Man’. Both, side-splitting and deadly serious, this is one mind-blowing kek-detonator of an album.
