James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy, the two inspired souls behind much revered NY label DFA, also happen to remix others. Not just for cash as you can clearly work out going through this compilation gathering some of their best re-rubs. It’s all about the music here, as well as forging creative links with exciting, respected acts that sometimes happen to be friends too. The list is impressive: Gorillaz (‘Dare’), Soulwax (‘Another Excuse’), Fischerspooner (‘Emerge’), Chemical Brothers, Le Tigre, Radio 4, Metro Area, Blues Explosion… You can argue that some of this uber-cool imprint’s other projects are not as accessible as leading force LCD Soundsystem (Murphy’s band) but when the pair gets together in the studio as DFA, the results are more often than not amazing. These two punky funksters combine live instrumentation with sequenced machines, the old and the new, and come up with a raw sound that collides rock, funk and dance brilliantly.
