There was a time a few years ago when the letter-box would regularly receive regular 12-inch vinyl missives from Berlin’s Vakant label which, along with Minus, were setting the template for the whole minimal movement which soon grew into a raging forest fire. Haven’t heard from them lately which is why it’s truly gratifying to encounter the Chilean producer’s third album [which follows the recent ‘Move In’ EP]. Dinky’s certainly had an electronic musical education since moving from Santiago to New York in the late 90s then Berlin five years ago. That shows along with passion, talent and experience of some of the world’s greatest clubs. The album straddles the dance music spectrum, ranging from the shimmering ‘Mi Amor’ through soothing string-drenched avant-resonance of ‘Mars Cello to deep minimal techno of ‘Mind’. Most importantly, her music has a character and a restless vitality which means she can effortlessly hop from the strange tribal jazz percolations of ‘Burdelia’ to the charging ‘Fade Me In’ with vocals from Dinky’s mate Jorge Gonzalez. A brilliant journey teaming with all strains of dancefloor life.
