Besides being a crucial DJ and production wizard partly responsible for the development of Chicago acid-house, DJ Pierre later influenced the sound of New York’s more disco-fied house with his tenure as an in-house producer for Strictly Rhythm. A man of many guises, ‘Phuture & Other Classics’ pulls together a handful of his most influential recordings and best loved early work under a variety of guises. As Phuture there’s the acid overload of the aptly named ‘Acid Trax’ (arguably one of the biggest selling house records of the time and the ground zero for the birth of a genre), ‘We Are Phuture’ and ‘Slam’, while with Felix Da Housecat the pair used the Pierre’s Pfantasy Club pseudonym to record ‘Dream Girl’ and ‘Fantasy Girl’. Under the alias of Phortune he also cut several sides including the jackin’ anthem ‘String Free’ and ‘Can You Feel The Bass?’ before relocating to NYC to further reinvent himself.
