DJ Vadim has ventured into the worlds of dancehall reggae and dub before, but this is the first time he has devoted a whole album to those excursions – and to help him he has a whole army of guests. It is no surprise that someone as musically versatile as Vadim takes to his new surroundings like a duck to water, at the same time putting his own stamp on proceedings – the music becoming just as colourful as the album cover suggests it should be. Loping tracks like ‘Give It Up’, featuring the excellent vocals of Katrina Blackstone and YT, work really well – and Blackstone – ‘sexier than Toni Braxton’ – shines again in ‘Magnetic’. ‘Nah Join’ is an enjoyably mischievous cut, while Demolition Man’s turn on ‘If Life Was A Thing is more reflective and insightful. His later contributions, ‘Lyrical Soldier’ and ‘Badman’, are delivered with great virtuosity to Vadim’s persuasive, brassy backing, making you wonder if a whole album from these two could be a thing in future. Vadim fans will lap this up, as an illustration of a producer who continues to keep his ears and mind wide open.
