DK7 first surfaced a couple of years ago with their killer acid house debut single ‘The Difference’, which I’m pleased to say is featured here, but there’s a lot more to DK7 than that. Mark O’Sullivan uprooted from Ireland and went to Stockholm where he developed and had worldwide success with The Mighty Quark, before becoming one half of DK7. His other half Jesper Dahlback has also had previous success working for Globe Studios where he produced for highly respected labels such as Svek. So let’s get bang up to date with ‘Disarmed’, well the sleeve looks like a Joy Division sleeve, which is nice. The title cut opens the album, and guess what, the bass intro is about as Peter Hook as you can get, deep and distant melancholic pads gradually rise, whilst the haunting lead vocal has got an Ian Curtis feel, but there’s also a touch of Bobby Goldsboro and Gene Pitney in there, which adds to the building drama. Other highlights include ‘Where’s The Fun’, which takes us to a run down disco in a deserted seaside town, the drifting haze of ‘Sweetness In Time’, then there’s the acid house antics of ‘Life Is Everywhere’ ‘Three Souls and ‘Sleeping Bag’, nicely finished off with the splayed out ‘Fire’. Output certainly can pick ’em, I’d keep an eye on DK7 if I were you.
