Cocoon maintains its trail of interesting sonic foragings with a young
producer from the Westerwald who’s already impressed on labels like Traum.
Unusually, all his titles are in German and the music is just as
uncompromising. Minimal is only a loose springboard which his feet only
tickled. There are many arresting moments, like the steel drum sound on
‘Lowenzahn-Luftwaffe’ and swelling electronic undergrowth over the rock beat
of ‘Autopfoten’. A chicken with clenched buttocks appears amidst the
sepulchral melodies of the atmospheric ‘Libellenwellen’. Obviously a bloke
lost in exploring what new startling combination he can knock up in his
sound lab, repeatedly coming up trumps.
