The man’s taken his time since his debut release for Archive, “Up & Down”, but as fans of his styles know, he’s been busy under various aliases. For “Return Of The Rogue”, Dominic Stanton has keenly focused his production style to incorporate the soul, funk and boogie that informs that ‘broken beat’ sound. But more than that, he’s still pushing his own sound forward, coming up with some unique angles and sounds on cuts like “Unfazed” (with vocals from Nicola Kramer), neither broken beat, house or jungle, yet taking from each in turn. “It’s You” is a lithe neo-soul cut that infuses electronic keys to stunning effect. Tracks like the dark bass riding “Last Encounter” will scare the unwary with it’s freaky vocal samples and unsettling vibes. Fans of Domu’s ever evolving styles will lap this up and wonder when the next alias / installment is due.
