EFTERKLANG
TRIPPER
THE LEAF LABEL

Translated as “reverberation”, Copenhagen ten-piece Efterklang’s music nestles itself somewhere between cinematic soundscapes and classical jazz, monolithic soundscapes that dominate the stereo field, albeit with vocals and a liberal helping of electronics to help them along the way. “Doppelganger” is the perfect example. Breathlike vocals lost in the fabric of the music, sweeping strings and eerie melodies urging the listener onward in a swirl of mystery and motion. By contrast, “Monopolist” is much more contemplative, lush orchestration underpinning a wintery vocal duet. The group’s prediliction for grand scale instrumentation means comparisons with other similar artists – both geographically and musically – will likely be hard to avoid. That said, Efterklang’s own twist on the cool electronics versus grand operatics theme is an accomplished one.
