An intriguing collaboration this, and it doesn’t disappoint. Allien’s forward moving beats and deep, full bodied riffs trade punches with the Orchestra Apparat’s colourful contributions and a keen ear for detail. Some of the tracks feature cellos high in the mix, pushing against the beats, with semi-acoustic melodies that work really well and provide some unusual blends of techno, soundtrack-type music and even blues. The vocals are sparingly used so they make maximum impact – as do the instrumental tracks, which pack quite an emotional punch. A vivid and stimulating album.
