There’s an ever so subtle shift in the sound of Axel Willner this time round, as his second album for Kompakt makes use of a much more live sound. This is thanks to some nice touches in the rhythm department, plus a bit of window dressing in the form of the steel pan and xylophone that crop up very occasionally. The basics of his style are there though, and once ‘I Have The Moon, You Have The Internet’ beams in from outer space, there is a real build up of a kind of restrained euphoria. Only one thing blights the sunlight, which is a questionable cover of ‘Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime’, the only vocal track on the album and one that sounds out of place. Much better to head for tracks like ‘Leave It’ and ‘The More That I Do’, while closer ‘Sequenced’ drops the tempo to sound like a Lindstrom collaboration in its spaced out beauty. Another resounding success for The Field, and perfect late night listening material.
