Flug 8 – Trans-Atlantik – (Disko B)

Daniel Herrmann returns with a first album for Disko B, inspired mostly by endless hours of travelling whilst on tour. Electronic music is always great at creating pictures of travel, and it is almost inevitable that some of Herrmann’s work in this regard turns towards Kraftwerk – and does so almost obsessively in the case of the title track. Much more effective are the collaborations with vocalist Kristina Kristoffersen, whose contributions to ‘On A Spear’ and ‘Watch Me Grow’ complement the production really well. Herrmann shows himself to be a versatile artist, working at different speeds and with different styles, so that we can enjoy the propulsive ‘Musik aus Metall’, written with N.U. Unruh of Einstürzende Neubauten, as well as much as the slower, richly scored ‘Android’. Well worth investigating.
