It’s scary to think it was 20 years ago that we were first introduced to the Manchester group who helped define an era and bridged the gap between indie-rock and dance. The NME once proclaimed this “the greatest album of all time”, while even Noel Gallagher was humble enough to call it “perfect”. To mark the anniversary of the group’s eponymous 1989 debut it’s now reissued as a triple CD collectors edition newly remastered with a ‘lost demo’ disc that features the unreleased, ‘Pearl Bastard’, and live DVD along with six of the act’s promo videos. In case you’re unaware of the music within, it’s Ian Brown’s nonchalant vocals, along with John Squirer’s catchy hooks that made the band so irresistible. Tracks like ‘She Bangs The Drums’, ‘Elephant Stone’ and of course the mighty ‘Fools Good’ are defining moments and classic pop songwriting at its best.
