Hailing from Detroit initially, but now resident in Seattle, this five-piece band appear to be the logical successors of the trip-hop movement popularised by bands like Crustation, merging hip-hop leanings with dub, rock, electronics and even classical. The difference is that FULL like it a bit edgier, with more power and aggression, creating dense, layered soundscapes. In addition, vocalist Ms Wings provides fully realised songs, taking centre stage with whimsical lyrics and unusual tonalities. Vocally, she occasionally veers close to Bjork or PJ Harvey territory. This is actually FULL’s third album and is well worth tracking down, particularly for those looking to hear something a bit beyond the ordinary.
