James Braddell is back after a long period in the wilderness, but his return brings a reminder of just how good he has been as Funki Porcini. The sense of humour is alive and well, too, with some funny turns given to the ‘Moon River’ tune on ‘Moog River’, while ‘The Magic Hands Of Fernando Del Rey’ has much more of a swing, with its prominent role for the vibraphone. Elsewhere ‘On’ is about more moody soundscapes, with ‘This Ain’t The Way To Live’ a sombre piece of beat music and ‘The 3rd Man’ behaving like the long lost part of a soundtrack, its slow loop circling overhead. Braddell shows off a number of different styles as we go on this journey, and it’s an outing you’d be well advised to make on a regular basis.
