Gus Gus continue to mine a rich vein of productivity with their second album for Kompakt. These days their song writing is robust and not afraid to be confrontational – as the opening ‘Obnoxiously Sexual’ proclaims. This is a strangely powerful song, especially when the string lines kick in, and it sets the bar high for the rest of the album. ‘Another Life’ takes up the baton with a tougher beat, though its processed vocal won’t be to all tastes – while ‘Sustain’ and ‘Airwaves’ continue the all-out assault on the dancefloor. Meanwhile the title track twists an acidic keyboard line and throbbing bass to delight fans, while ‘This Is What You Get When You Mess With Love’ provides an embittered ending. Business as usual, then – another strong piece of work from one of Iceland’s very finest musical exports.
