Super-cool Guy J makes music to match – well paced and structured house that, in the course of this album, is blended into something more akin to a DJ set. As the record gathers itself, the tracks toward the end make the greatest impact – the glacial swirls of ‘Save Me’, or the fast moving loop of ‘Druma’. J is a subtle writer, and sometimes it needs a quieter room to fully appreciate the way he cleverly works his material, but the beats always have a bigger venue in mind – and add the mesmeric qualities of a fine debut album.
