Mysterious Glaswegian outfit The Phantom Band are already way out in front for the accolade debut album of the year with their freaky stunner “Checkmate Savage”. And from said LP comes the first single (proper) “The Howling”, starting out on funky rhythms & fuzzy electronics, then in comes Rick’s vocal sounding like the missing link between post punk, goth and country, strumming guitars build and lead to a dramatic but feel good hooky chorus. “There’ll be a ghost on the day I die… Carry my body on the reckoning wind. Howling, Howling.” If you haven’t got the album “Checkmate Savage”, you really are missing out.
