Swedish-Swiss country-cooked honky-tonk, coming on like a half-faltering Don McLean-Damien Rice vocal merger, split by Canadian Julie Doiron and recorded in Leeds. Without ever sounding as international as you might think, this bunch of hermits push cheek-bound tongues with shoulder shrugs, and enlightenment ready to “feed dolphins tofu and stars” with a mixture of excitement and too long staring at four walls. Their moptop, sometimes almost Shadows-like pop riffs (!) veer from perky, call-to-arms inclusion, to peeved, everything’s a bummer labouring, without much of a heads-up. A sixth LP of top 10 material.
