Something pretty amazing happened when Sweden’s Minilogue and Australia’s Decoy got together for two weeks to see what happened when they mixed instruments like sax, piano and viola with an arsenal of technology from moogs to drum machines. ‘Second Track’ sets the scene with disjointed hiphop beats and jazz piano wracked with dub thunder. It goes on to straddle anything from the ethereal ambience of ‘Heaven And Bagpipes’ to donal Duck doing a human beat box on the aptly-titled ‘Get A Grip’ which ends up a remarkable hiphop space mutant. The bass odyssey of ‘Lost In Rostanga’ recalls the atonal Delta jams of John Fahey while ‘Return of The Imps’ is their take on a light-fingered house excursion. And so it goes on: just great hearing a set which throws the rulebook out of the window and bounces ideas around to see where they end up.
