Jim Noir’s self titled second album picks up where his “Tower Of Love” debut left off, soaring on blazing sunshine psychedelics that lift the spirits, even on the most dullest of days. “Welcome Commander Jameson” gets us off to a flying start, into “All Right” and we’re above the clouds. “What U Gonna Do” has got The Beatles written all over it, and “Don’t You Worry” punts down stream reflecting the glare off the water. Other highlights include the spiraling “Ships And Clouds”, the 78rpm oompah of “Good Old Vinyl”, the bubblegum pop of “Same Place Holiday”, and the crashing cymbaldelics of “Welcome CJ”. There’s a lot of familiar riffs and melodies on this album, but they’re all given a new slant. Simian, The Beta Band, Super Furry Animals and I Monster keep springing to mind, which can only be a good thing. If you’re on that drift, Jim’ll fix it for you.
