Jimmy Edgar’s music is a fine blend of the old and the new, taking 808 sounds as influenced by Kraftwerk and throwing some P-funk and Prince into the mix, adding some electronic dressing and standing back to admire the results. He wins through handsomely with music for the dancefloor (‘My Beats’) but proves just as successful when casting soundscapes such as the ominously titled ‘I Wanna Be Your STD’ or ‘Telautraux’, which sounds like a short wave transmission in outer space. Meanwhile Edgar’s fulsome bassines and busy drum tracks give the woofers more than enough to be going on with. A richly rewarding and forward thinking album.
