Stuart Price aka Jacques Lu Cont spikes the channels with direct, electro-grizzled sheen, offering both chain mail guitars and pop possibilities, and operating a sliding scale of intensity befitting of the album’s title. Punk-fatale Juliet shows her talons on ‘Au’, reels in the vulnerable as ‘Nu Taboo’ prowls panther-like and cuts loose on the growling ‘Ride the Pain’, but parades her halo and pitchfork simultaneously as she exudes confidence on ‘Never Land’ and ‘Would You Mind’, and by the end displays softer, Dido-like tendencies. The dead-eyed to doe-eyed temptress look remains a good one in these parts.
