Although embraced by the European techno community, Kate Wax boasts a startlingly individual song-writing talent and voice. Here, she hands her disembodied tones to a gaggle of prime remixers while displaying new re-edits on tracks like ‘Who Can Tell’, a spooky ballad somehow recalling Francoise Hardy’s ethereal late 60s/early 70s period. It’s a fascinating journey with Roman Flugel starting by giving ‘Beetles And Spider’ a sparse funk somewhat reminiscent of Prince’s ‘Sign Of The Times’. Ellen Alien and Apparat are on a roll right now and don’t disappoint with their own take on said track. Other remixers include Dave The Hustler, Kalabrese and St Plomb. The edit of ‘Pleasure Zone’ is just plain sexy, as is most of this set when it comes down to it. As a bonus, the collection comes with a digital-only release of’ The Dark Heat Collection I’. Highly recommended for lovers of enigmatic, atmospheric European electronica around gorgeously-ethereal songs.
