So natural has been the chemistry between Keiran ‘Four Tet’ Hebden and jazz drummer Steve Reid that the pair have honed their instincts for improvisation into a studio album. But whereas the first two live records they made as the ‘Exchange Sessions’ were challenging listening, these are a bit easier to take in smaller, bite sized chunks. Hebden’s unique way with more ambient keyboard based material is well complemented by Reid’s impressive fills, working well to create a lot of energy but keeping the sound cool at the same time. This makes for a record that works on two levels, providing stimulating background or foreground music.
