Kid Carpet
Casio Royale
Sunday Best

The amusing title gives it away – this really is just Kid Carpet and a cheap keyboard. Well, not quite that straightforward, as he has a few mates to help him vocalise and a guest instrumentalist here and there – but this is essentially a one-man band, trading lo-fi lyrical insights with imaginative and intricate backing beats. The novelty annoyance that is ‘Can’t Stop The Pop’ might wear thin after a while, but it’s difficult to resist the Viennese waltz of ‘I Can’t Believe’, even if the cover of ‘Help Yourself’ is a bridge too far. It’s interesting stuff though, well worth seeking out as an alternative to The Streets or even Just Jack.
