The view from Koushik’s window is initially a deep blue sky, as this album starts with a beautifully meditative sunrise moment. From then on the styles become more diverse, though, as he includes references to shoegaze, funk, The Doors and a bit of psychedelia round the edges – using his influences in a similar way to DJ Shadow but adding his own individual touch in the form of dreamy vocals. The lush scoring of ‘Be With’ works especially well, particularly when it drops back to a softly strumming harp, while ‘Bright And Shining’ makes good use of the brass section. Koushik is constantly inventive and pretty original too, meaning this is an album elevated well above the standard chill out norm.
