There’s some pretty far out music on the third album from Frankfurt’s Lars Bartkuhn. Sometimes there’s a bit too much going on, with his fusion techniques leading to some crowded chords and textures, the music moving just beyond the ear. But when things slow down a bit there’s a real chance to appreciate Bartkuhn’s wonderful way with textures, as he produces sparkling sounds that approach the aural equivalent of a starry sky. If the listener concentrates on these, and some of the more persuasive lyrics there’s a lot to get out of this record, with its multi-styled approach reaping dividends. It works well both as background or foreground listening.
