Little Dragon are still something of a well kept secret, but it’s to be hoped that their third album gives them the mainstream recognition they deserve. ‘Ritual Union’, the title track, is the fragile single that shows off Yukimi Nagano’s unique vocal, while the music crosses the line between funk and modern soul with apparent ease. Elsewhere she injects a bit more sassiness, which works really well in songs like ‘Shuffle A Dream’, while ‘Precious’ shows off that exquisite tension between quick beats and vulnerable lyrics that they do so well. Nagano has cropped up a lot elsewhere recently, gracing albums from Gorillaz, David Sitek and SBTRKT, but this could well be the record that propels her day job into something rather special.
