LUMP
LUMPDUB
FUTURE DUB

The word, here, is dub. Lump is the assumed name of Arttu Snellman from the frozen wastes of North Finland. Bitten by acid house and techno in his own country, he started experimenting with synths and decks and propelled himself into the subterranean world of dub reggae while spending time in London. Arttu started releasing music in 2002 on Berlin’s respected Sub Static label, played live and caught the attention of Berlin’s Jay Haze, who commissioned him to do an EP for his net label Textone – which has turned into this whole album on his revitalised Future Dub imprint. It’s worth the convoluted journey whipping up a succession of sonic booms which range from the slo-mo chillout zone [‘Dub Below Zero’] to minimal grooves topped with a sink being unplugged [‘Dub Don’t Bite’]. Sometimes it’s like dub with just the reverb left in or small animals, mid-period Orb or a guinea-pig taking a dump. Whatever, it’s different and cool.
