MARTIN SOLVEIG
HEDONIST
DEFECTED

For his second album, Martin Solveig reverts to a more song based approach, and by and large it works. It would be difficult to follow up the massive ‘Everybody’, which opens up here, but several songs come close – the Masters At Work style bass of ‘Jealousy’ and the vocal house stompe ‘Something Better’. At times he takes just a bit too much from Michael Jackson – closing ballad ‘Don’t Waste A Day’, while well sung, doesn’t do him many favours – but that blot aside, this is an excellent fusion of dance rhythms and good songwriting.
