In the continued absence of Stereolab, Monade are easily the next best thing, where Letitia Sadier currently channels her creative energies. ‘Monstre Cosmic’ is more mellow than 2005’s ‘A Few Steps More’, with tracks like the dreamy ‘Invitation’ rubbing shoulders with more vibrant bossa rhythms, such as ‘Lost Language’. Again Sadier moves between English and French in her vocals, with the aid of luminous scoring for strings, trombone and keyboards amongst other things. The result is a late night or early morning treat, a nice indulgence on the side.
