The North East duo Mysterymen unleash their debut LP via Disko B, after a couple of singles for the label. It weaves an alluring path through dusty analogue signals and rewired Ataris, deftly manipulated sine waves married to robotic rhythms It’s oldfashioned electro-pop that Kraftwerk and Gary Numan were once making (“Ploink” and “Is It Real?”); it’s synthesized glittery melodies that Laurie Anderson and John Foxx used to make (“Your Best Friends”); it’s technology worshipping disco like Morgan Geist and Daniel Wang have popularised again. Most of all, it’s an album of individual electronic songs, reminding us why we fell in love with those ancient machines and their sharp sounds in the first place.
