New York’s !!!, or Chk Chk Chk as they have to be pronounced, are swinging their brand of disco-tinged punk into a second album, hanging determinedly onto the coat tails of DFA and the like. Less dependent on electronics, !!! are full of energy and drive, reaching a ragged disco high on the pumping, sing-along ‘Must Be The Moon’, crying out above reverberated drums on ‘Heart of Hearts’ or going for the big glam stomp in the beat of the terrific ‘Yadnus’. Meanwhile ‘Bend Over Beethoven’ suggests a Manchester influence as well as the New York one – whichever your preference, a track that won’t have you sat still for long! A hugely exciting record.
